Presidents Day

18 Feb

Glorious and joyful Presidents Day to all of you!

The Arizona Historical Society is closed for Presidents Day. We are all probably hanging out in our socks at home drinking tea and reading to our pets or children. But that is no reason that you can’t enjoy a previously scheduled post to satiate your P-Day history fix.

Today, take a moment to reflect on our system of government as a whole. It’s a system that’s been in place for a long time and works well. If you’re a parent, take a moment to sit down with your kids and talk about a president either current or past. This is a good day to get kids interested in politics. I’m not talking about the dark side, the fighting, and all the other negative stuff. We see enough of that on TV. Take a minute to tell your kids about why it’s all worth it and reflect on past leaders who have had good influences on our country. If you’re not a parent, it doesn’t matter. Why don’t you take a moment and think about it too? Today’s leaders are tomorrow’s history and though politics always makes for a good story, you’re the voting power behind the men and women who serve our country in elected offices. So pat yourself on the back. Then high five George Washington and Honest Abe if they happen to be sitting next to you at the coffee shop. Come on, we all deserve it!
